You don’t have time to blink, let alone have intimate alone time together. In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it’s easy to put your relationship last; we have to change that. That’s where the date night at home box comes in to save the day (or should I say night).
In this blog post, I’ll guide you and your partner through this creative and made-to-order date night. Ensuring that it’s a memorable and enjoyable experience for both of you.
What is the Purpose of a Date Night?
Date nights, I believe, are very important for couples in all seasons of life. Whether you are a young couple, an old couple, 6 months in, or 35 years in; dating your significant other is IMPORTANT!
But what if you can’t get a babysitter? Or you got home late, you had no time to get ready, and you needed a reservation like yesterday. I get it, life gets in the way and it has a habit of derailing what should be important.
However, date nights and creating intimacy are still very much needed. Let me introduce the idea of why a date night is beneficial.
The Benefits:
- Creates an environment for emotional and physical intimacy: Allows you to continue to touch base with your spouse on a deeper level. Also, when was the last time you got it on? Don’t worry, I’ll wait.
- Can relieve stress: There’s nothing more relaxing than cuddling up next to the person you chose to do life with. Seriously, (according to WebMD) our bodies release a hormone called oxytocin when cuddling allowing us to handle stress better.
- Allows couples to stay current with each other: Once the kids are gone and the careers have ended, you’ll only have each other left. Will you know who they are?
- Cultivates a healthier relationship: You’re more likely to be more physically and emotionally intimate, which in turn allows you to build trust and open communication.
- Boosts confidence in each other: You’ll be confident in your choice of your partner. Life wouldn’t be able to knock you down.
Why wouldn’t you want to make date night a priority after all the benefits? It does not have to be overly expensive and you do not need to be like me and drop $250 at once. You more than likely have everything you need at home already.
Let me introduce, Date Night at Home Box. You can buy things once a week, once a month, or every paycheck to save/buy a little to prepare.
Not only will you be able to keep everything to reuse for the next date night but you can add to the collection in a safe contained place. It is super customizable and convenient whenever you cannot get out.
My husband and I LOVE this box. We usually have a steak dinner and put on a fireplace YouTube video. We enjoy the cackling sound of the fire and the warmth of each other’s company.
Getting Started with your Date Night at Home Box
Step 1: Get a Box and Choose a Theme
To start your romantic date night at home box, you’ll need a box or a storage container to hold everything. However, My recommendation is to get a bigger tote than I did if you want to hold ALL of your supplies in one spot.
I repurposed and I was fine with storing certain items around my home until I needed them again. I purchased mine from Walmart for roughly $30.
After selecting the box, what will you two choose to go into the box? What kind of tone are you wanting to set whenever you use the box?
Theme Ideas:
- A Romantic, candle-lit night (We chose this theme): Rose petals, champagne, steak, and a cackling fire all while listening to some R&B while you, erm….talk.
- Movie Night: Netflix and Chill and actually watch the movie with some popcorn.
- Game Night: Twister, Uno, Monopoly, or any other fun games the two of you enjoy.
- Cooking Adventure: You could have date night recipe cards and each of you could pick something to make. One could make the dessert and drinks and the other could make the entrees.
Step 2: Finding the Supplies for Date Night at Home
Now for the fun part, actually filling your date night at home box with lots of goodies!
I purchase my items between Target and Walmart. I am 100% certain that Amazon, Dollar Tree, Dollar General, or really any retail store of your choosing will be able to aid you in your personal box.
First, shop in your home. I am so sure that you already have pretty dining ware, glassware, and silverware. I had white plates that I had purchased last Thanksgiving, in two different sizes along with bowls, wine flutes, and gold silverware.
We also already had two throw blankets that I wanted to use since I already use them around the house as well.
Here’s what I purchased between Walmart and Target:
- Rose Petals (Walmart’s Wedding section)
- Ice Bucket (Target)
- Candles & Candle mini packs (Walmart)
- Storage tote (Walmart)
- String Lights (Walmart’s Wedding section)
- Farmhouse-inspired Candle Holder (Walmart)
- Lawn Cushions & Extra Throw Pillows (Walmart)
- Welches Sparkling Cider (Champagne, Semi-sweet red or white wine, or a mixed drink made together will also work)
- Canvas Sheet to cover the box and act like a table (Walmart’s Art Section)
- Small gift bag and candy (Walmart)
Your box could include ingredients for a meal or special drink, or cheesy $5 movies from Walmart’s movie bin. Be creative and think about the kind of evening you both find enjoyable.
3. Set the Stage
After shopping both at home and in stores: all you need to do now:
- Handle the kids: Put the kids to bed or arrange a sitter.
- Have a dinner ready: Either to serve and eat (We ordered To Go at a local steakhouse and hubby picked it up) or to cook together.
- Assemble everything: Prep anything and everything you can ahead of time
- Enjoy each other’s company: Dim the lights, put on a movie, or enjoy a coffee and talk.
Make sure the house is cleaned up and ready to go once everything else is in place. Make sure to also put on something comfortable.
Step 4. Enjoy the Night
Sit back, cut out any distractions, and enjoy this night specially crafted by the two of you. Remember to always make time to date each other. Quality time together is never a waste of time and a romantic date night at home is even easier with a date night kit.
It’s a cost-effective way to remain intimate with one another and able to be used whenever you want.
P.S. Easy clean-up bonus with the Date Night in a Box. Just put everything back in the box for next time.
Extra Tip
I have two fun cookbooks, one is by Snoop Dogg & the other is by T. Pain. Snoop Dogg has a food cookbook and T. Pain has a mixed drinks book.
For a fun twist on a new date night at home meal you could shop together for all the ingredients and cook together.
FAIR WARNING: Both have some language but if you can look past that, it could be a fun and new idea to try. If language would be an issue, please check for other recipe ideas.
This post was all about creating a date night at home box.
