I need everyone to know that there is one day that is a major key to success. And that day should be the heartbeat of our households – Sundays! As the week draws to a close, there’s no denying a well-structured Sunday routine.
This can be a game-changer for setting the tone for the upcoming week. Create a Sunday routine that not only nurtures our families but also allows a week of success.
This post is all about creating a Sunday routine for a productive week.
Sunday Morning Routine
Start your Sunday on a positive note by waking up a bit earlier than usual. Use this precious quiet time for self-care – whether it’s enjoying a cup of coffee in peace, indulging in a good book, or a prayer session. A calm morning sets the tone for a calm day.
Some may use their Sunday mornings for a church service, online or in-person. Sunday fellowship and worship can give you a framework of scripture to adhere to for the upcoming week.
You can also try reading a motivating self-help book. It can give you a word or phrase to apply to your week. I honestly like using both.
Family Breakfast
Gather the family around the table for a delicious and nutritious breakfast. Use this time to discuss plans for the day, share highlights from the week, and reinforce the sense of togetherness. It’s the perfect opportunity to bond before the hustle and bustle of the week begins.
Planning Your Week
Grab your planner and set aside a few minutes to organize the week ahead. Jot down appointments, meal plans, and any special events. Having a visual on your upcoming plans can help alleviate stress and ensure you don’t miss important activities.
I’d recommend sitting down with your spouse and discussing the budget (even if you get paid monthly). If you are currently paying down debts and using a visual, update it together.
It creates a stronger bond, and now you both are on the same page for your upcoming week. Don’t allow the mental load of the family to fall on one person.
Meal Prep
Spend some time in the kitchen preparing meals for the upcoming week. Whether it’s chopping vegetables, marinating proteins, or cooking a few freezer-friendly dishes, meal prepping on Sundays can save time during hectic weekdays.
You can save A LOT of morning time by prepping everything you can on Sunday. You can have the smoothest dinners and breakfast by taking 30 minutes to chop, dice, and slice.
Sundays are the goat for managing your dinner plan more effectively. I often schedule my grocery pick-up on Sundays and when I don’t, it screws me up.
Family Activity
Plan a fun family activity to create lasting memories. It could be a nature walk, a board game session, or a simple DIY project. Engaging in activities together strengthens family bonds and provides a positive boost for the week ahead.
Something I really to start is a weekly Sunday tradition. I think it would give my kids something positive to begin the long week ahead of them.
Sunday Reset Routine
Take a moment to declutter and tidy up communal spaces. A neat and organized home environment promotes a sense of calm and makes the upcoming week more manageable.

I use Sunday as a house reset day. I clean up our shoe bin, clean up the coat rack, and overall pick up. Wash any bedding, sheets, and work clothes needed.
Self-Care Sunday Routine
Carve out a small window of time for self-care. Whether it’s a relaxing bath, a face mask, or a quick workout, investing in yourself on Sundays can recharge your energy and enhance your overall mood.
It’s tough getting through the week. Whether you go to school, work outside the home, or at home. Taking care of yourself even for a moment can help you romanticize your week.
Couples Time
After the house has settled and the kids have gone to sleep, spend no tech, no TV, and intimate time with your spouse. Whether it’s just cuddling after a long day, reading a book together, or even reviewing what was discussed at church.
Having this special time together sets the tone for your week together. Relax together before you get busy during the week. You’ll always have something to look forward to by the end of the week.
Reflect on your past week
Ask yourself what worked and what didn’t work that past week.
What made your mornings harder and your afternoons easier? And vice versa.
Asking yourself these questions gives you insight into what to continue and what to tweak or give up entirely. Creating a routine that’s unique and completely flows with your family.
Although tough, waking up early to a clean house is so much easier on me. Having a good closing shift before bed makes the morning shift a more productive one.
What doesn’t work for my family is having little to no structure. I’m reacting to the days and nothing gets done, I’m tired, and I don’t feel like my family got the best version of myself.
Rest
Above all of the mentioned tips, taking time to rest is the most important one. Honestly, if you get nothing else done resting is still productive.
You’ve been busy all week, with the chores, the kids, and everything to run your household smoothly. Curl up with a good book, or a podcast, or simply enjoy the day.
By incorporating these simple steps into your Sunday, you can create a routine that aligns with your values and fulfills both you and your family.
